Shady were a very popular Blackpool band. They supported Roy Chubby Brown numerous times and I believe performed at one of the Blackpool illumination light switch on events.

“The original shady line-up of Phil fletcher, John Williams, Tony Bailey and Andy Jakeman started in 1976 (FFS!!!!) as a band called Spice playing working mens clubs around the north-west. That band split up at the end of 79.

A new band started up with Andy, tony, John Ward on keys and Jane Sutcliffe on vocals and started using the name Shady. Then the original line-up got back together again in 82 and kept the name Shady.

Various line-up changes along the way, mainly bass players, until Phil & Tony left to go to Tenerife, and Rob Bridge joined as frontman in 1996.”

Thanks to Andy Jakeman for the info

“Pretty sure that picture of John with the Roland (that’s a Juno 106, by the way, wish he’d not got rid!!) is from the lights switch on night but I could be wrong. Incidentally the actual light switcher-on person that year was Joanna Lumley…. 1986 I think….”
